AGES

AGES, a European pioneer in inter-seasonal underground thermal energy storage, is developing a disruptive technology based on the natural storage capacity offered by the subsoil (Geothermal Energy Division)

As an energy supplier or EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor, AGES combines technical and scientific expertise in the fields of energy, geothermal energy, underground energy storage and innovative drilling processes.

This new form of geothermal energy, through its use of the subsoil, enables the production of thermal energy (hot water, superheated water, steam), cooling energy (chilled water) and/or electricity.

With unlimited storage capacity, our ‘underground thermal batteries’ enable the utilisation of large quantities of intermittent renewable and renewable-derived energy (>100 GWh/year) at high temperatures (from 40°C to over 150°C), at depths ranging from 30 to over 2,000 metres.

Reproducible in 95 per cent of underground contexts, our solutions are non-intrusive and low-risk. Our ‘underground batteries’ do not rely on the use of rare earth elements, require only a small land footprint and utilise only existing, tried-and-tested technologies.

Regulatory-wise, this geothermal module is classified as a geothermal reservoir falling under the category of ‘Underground Thermal Energy Storage’.
