Dominica in talks with French group on geothermal project
The Dominican government is working on a project to build a geothermal power plant in partnership with French companies. The ambassador of the OAS emphasized the various benefits of the project that will see the light of the day in 2022. The objective is to reduce the cost of electricity for the inhabitants and to provide electricity to the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. This very important advantage for Dominica will allow them to create their own renewable energy. They also wish to sell this geothermal energy to the French territories. The government intends to finish the negotiations by the end of March 2021. A call for tenders has been issued for the drilling of new wells, which should begin next May.
